Master Thomas Gordon: A Martial Arts Odyssey

The Early Years The journey of Master Thomas Gordon, the owner, and Chief Instructor at Gordon Martial Arts, is one filled with dedication, passion, and a relentless pursuit of martial arts excellence. Thomas's martial arts adventure began at a small martial arts school located at the intersection of Highway 85 & 90, right next to Teal & Waters. He was just an elementary school student at the time, and martial arts weren't as youth-oriented as they are today. Unfortunately, the school closed its doors, but fate had another opportunity in store for young Thomas.

A Second Chance As a young adult, Thomas discovered another martial arts school near his home. This school was affiliated with a closed martial art organization, setting the stage for Thomas's remarkable journey. He soon partnered with Mr. Gregory Bledsoe to open a school in a neighboring community. After five years of managing the school and a decade of traveling across the United States to compete, Thomas felt the urge to align himself more closely with the original Taekwondo system and open a school in his hometown.

Gordon Martial Arts: A Dream Realized In 2003, Thomas turned his dream into reality by establishing Gordon Martial Arts. He proudly associated himself with two highly respected Grandmasters, GM Hwang, KS (K-9-1), and GM Rudy Timmerman. Since then, Thomas's martial arts journey has taken him across the globe, spanning countries like Canada, Korea, Australia, Scotland, England, the Netherlands, Mexico, France, and all over the United States. Notably, due to the military presence in his area, Thomas has trained individuals from various walks of life, including Special Operations, Special Forces, and numerous law enforcement personnel.

A Trailblazing Career Thomas Gordon's martial arts career boasts several significant milestones:

  1. Family Legacy: Witnessing both of his daughters test for black belts with Grandmasters on the panel.

  2. Magazine Recognition: Being featured six times on the cover of Taekwondo Times (TKDT), including special features and listings such as "Movers & Shakers" in the Korean Martial Arts, "Football, The Martial Artist Way," and "Must-Do Event of the Year" with the Korean Martial Art Festival.

  3. Sixth Degree Achievement: Testing for the sixth degree in Taekwon-Do in front of GM Hwang and GM Timmerman.

  4. Global Martial Arts Journey: The privilege of traveling the world, training, and teaching martial arts.

Beyond Martial Arts Outside the realm of martial arts, Thomas Gordon has ventured into diverse fields. He played Offensive Tackle and Center for the Crestview Thunderbirds, an adult semi-pro football team, with his final season in 2012. Additionally, Thomas owns and operates an air conditioning business, which his parents started in 1979. A dedicated community member, Thomas actively participates in community events and fundraisers. He has held numerous positions of responsibility, including serving on the Okaloosa County Mechanical Competency Board, the Board of Adjustments for the City of Crestview, and the Board of Directors for the local YMCA. His contributions extend to the Green Committee for the Building Industry Association, Crestview City Council, Crestview Community Redevelopment Agency, Okaloosa RESTORE Advisory Committee (BP Oil Spill), and the Crestview Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Thomas Gordon's journey embodies the spirit of martial arts - discipline, perseverance, and a commitment to bettering oneself and the community.
