A Humble Beginning
In the early 70s, Grand Master Jamie Serio embarked on a remarkable martial arts journey that would span nearly five decades. While pursuing a BS in Electrical Engineering at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, he initially aimed to join the gymnastics team but discovered that the competition was fierce. Fate intervened when he stumbled upon a flyer inviting students to join the LSU martial arts club, led by Master He-Young Kimm. Little did he know that this chance encounter would shape his life in profound ways.
Discovering the Path
Upon joining the LSU martial arts club under Master Kimm's guidance, Grand Master Serio quickly distinguished himself as a dedicated and passionate student. His commitment to martial arts led him to become a lifelong student of Dr. Kimm, a bond that remains unbroken to this day.
Nurturing a Martial Arts Legacy
During his training with Dr. Kimm, Grand Master Serio witnessed the birth of Han Mu Do, a Korean martial art that Dr. Kimm was encouraged to create in 1988. Grand Master Serio played a pivotal role in assisting Dr. Kimm in shaping this unique martial art.
Master of Demonstrations
Grand Master Serio's exceptional skills have often cast him in the role of Dr. Kimm's demonstration partner, leading to his appearances on the covers of martial arts magazines worldwide. It's even become a running joke among friends that he's better recognized upside-down. For almost fifty years, Grand Master Serio has dedicated himself to Dr. Kimm and Han Mu Do. His tireless efforts have taken him to Asia, Europe, Mexico, and the United States, spreading Dr. Kimm's philosophy of making the world better through martial arts.
Embracing Diversity
In alignment with Dr. Kimm's philosophy, Grand Master Serio believes that black belts should have a deep understanding of multiple martial arts. Guided by Dr. Kimm, he has earned black belts in Hae Dong Kum Do, Kuk Sul Won, and Tae Kwon Do, exemplifying the diverse knowledge that enriches Han Mu Do.

Grand Master Serio's pursuit of knowledge in martial arts perfectly mirrors Dr. Kimm's teachings. Together, they exemplify the philosophy that martial artists should continually seek to expand their horizons and share their wisdom.

Today, Grand Master Serio serves as the Senior Vice President of the World Han Mu Do Association, focusing on curriculum development and technical advancements to further spread the Han Mu Do Korean martial art system across the globe.
