MARTIAL ARTS TOURNAMENT

On March 29, 2008, the Copiah-Lincoln
Community College (Co-Lin) Martial Arts Club hosted the 11th
Annual He-Young Kimm Cup Martial Arts Tournament. One
hundred-forty-one competitors from Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and
Mississippi competed in sparring, form, weapons, self-defense,
kicking, and falling events, ranging from ages five years to
fifty-five. The tournament was sponsored by the World Han Mu Do
Association, headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but with
affiliate schools throughout the world. The Han Mu Do founder and
president, Dr. He-Young Kimm was on hand for the festivities and
competition. Dr. Kimm addressed the competitors and spectators
alike, advising them to take the optimistic approach to all
endeavors, whether on the mat or in daily life.
Our “He-Young
Kimm Cup” champion this year was Jillian Serio from the Shin Sun
Martial Arts School, St. Francisville, LA., the “James Busby Cup”
went to Charles Weimer from the Kimm Institute, Baton Rouge, LA, and
the “Spencer Serio Cup” for the most over-all points for a student
under the rank of Black Belt went to Michael Pace from the Sunbi
Martial Art School, Madison, MS. The Outstanding Participating
School Award went to Co-Lin Martial Arts Club, Wesson, MS.
