Grandmaster Jamie Serio 8th Dan PDF Print E-mail

Master Serio grew up in a small community in Louisiana.  He would regularly wrestle with his three brothers and practice Basketball, were dunking the ball in the net was a real achievement for his moderate 5ft 7inch frame.  His continued practice at jumping for the net was to prove beneficial when it came to his jumping kicks, which he now performs with confidence, poise and power.

His initial interest in martial arts came from watching the television series 'Kung Fu'; and the film 'Billy Jack'.  He not only marvelled at the techniques of Grandmaster Bong Soo Han, but also at the balance of physical control and mental discipline one can achieve through the practice of martial arts.  Also during this period, Master Serio was pursuing a degree in electrical engineering as well as actively practising gymnastics.

It was at Louisiana State University that he first met Dr He-Young Kimm.  Master Serio was so impressed and fascinated by a demonstration that Dr Kimm and his students gave at the University, that he immediately started training under Dr Kimm's tutelage.  He has trained with Dr Kimm ever since and continues to do so.  Throughout this period he has remained true and loyal to Dr Kimm and his teachings.

Always training hard and trying to improve and add to his already impressive repertoire of techniques, Master Serio currently holds a 8th Degree in Hanmudo.  Master Serio is as comfortable kicking and striking as he is throwing, locking or performing with weapons.

Master Serio also teaches at his own school in St Francisville - Louisiana. He jointly runs the school with his wife, Dr. Penny Serio, 6th Degree.  He believes Han Mu Do has so much to offer the individual through its wide variety of techniques and philosophy.  He believes continued training to be good for the individual and that instructors should be an example to their students.

A quiet man, Grandmaster Serio is an inspiration to all Martial Artists with his attitude to training, learning and constant practising of new techniques.  He is a great credit to his instructor and mentor, Dr He-Young Kimm, for whom he holds the greatest respect.
